So I’ve written about my love of Osteria La Spiga previously, and specifically, I talked about how much I love the Tartufo Bianco there. Recently a friend came to visit from out of town (hiiii Sandra!), so I knew I needed another chance to snap a photo of this perfect dessert. After finishing dinner at Restaurant Zoe (review to come), we decided to skip dessert there so she could experience the joys of this dessert at La Spiga.
As a reminder to anyone who hasn’t read my past post, the Tartufo Bianco is a generous scoop of sweet cream gelato surrounding a centre of amaretto, coffee, and sambuca, then rolled in a coating of crushed meringue. This dessert is really sweet, and might turn off people who aren’t huge dessert fans to begin with. The key is to order it affogato, with a shot of espresso poured over just before you dive in. The smooth yet bitter flavour of the espresso cuts into the sweetness of the dessert, allowing for a great interplay of flavours. My Stepmum, who says she “is not a dessert person”, was left analyzing this dish down to its component parts, figuring out how she might exactly replicate it at home.
Even if you don’t eat dinner at La Spiga, pull up at the bar for some after-dinner drinks and dessert.
