Since moving to the U.S. I have made one great discovery – there’s a thing called Grubhub.com, where you can order food for delivery online. ONLINE! Do you know what this means for awkward shut ins who are so awkward, they feel uncomfortable calling up strangers to ask for food??? Obviously this doesn’t apply to me (of course not! I mean, uh, it’s cool I guess, and convenient), but this new website eliminates the need for takeout menus, or in our paperless world, the need to find online both a) the number of the place you want to order from and b) the full menu off which you can order. It can be frustrating when a craving hits, but the place you want to order from doesn’t even offer an online menu.
The way Grubhub works, is first you enter in your address or zip code, and it will show a listing of all the places in your radius that will deliver. You can refine the search by type of cuisine, or even directly search the name of your favourite place. If the restaurant has partnered with Grubhub, a full takeout menu will appear, and all you need to do is tick the boxes for the items you want to order. The neat thing is every time you tick another item for your order, a window will pop up to customize that order (type of meat, spice level, extra veggies or extra meat, etc.). For people with food allergies, there is an optional instruction box you can fill out, and this is a great way to make sure the place you are ordering from knows to leave out certain ingredients from your favourite dish.
When you’re ready to place your order, Grubhub gives you the option to create an account. You can register your email, enter in a credit card number, and enter in your address, and this information will be saved so the next time you order online you don’t need to re-enter it. The website also remembers the places and menu items you most often order, speeding up the process even more.
For next-level convenience and speed of ordering, check out grubhub.com to see if your favourite restaurants have linked into this awesome website.
