Tucked away in a corner of Millstream Village is 900º Pizzeria which is supposedly the next best thing to Prima Strada…or is it better?
When I heard there was a new Pizzeria in town I just had to give it a try as soon as I had the chance. I went for lunch on a Monday afternoon and it was fairly quiet with just a few other diners there. 900º is a large open restaurant with kitschy prints of Italian scenery on the walls and park benches to boot. It felt like a strip mall eatery, but I wasn’t here for the décor so on to the food. To start we had an appetizer of roasted veggies which included tomatoes, peppers, onions, garlic, carrots and parsnips. It was a beautiful and colourful appetizer and delicious too. It was an appetizer not commonly offered at a lot of restaurants but I really welcomed the idea of having some fresh veggies to start my meal.
We then order two pizzas to share amongst the three of us, the pancetta and fungi with white sauce and the picante with a tomato based sauce. The pizzas are prepared fresh in the open kitchen and baked in their wood-fired oven which sits proudly at the end of the restaurant. The pizzas took about 15 minutes from the time we ordered them. The pizzas had a beautiful thin crust with the perfect amount of chew for an Italian style pizza with a bit of crisp on the crust. The picante pizza had a rich tomato flavour and the right amount of spiciness too. The fungi and pancetta pizza was just okay to me. The mushroom flavour wasn’t as prominent as I would have liked it to be but I will say that there was a substantial amount of crispy bacon on there so if you’re getting this pizza get it because you like bacon not because you’re wanting a mushroom pizza.
Overall I really enjoyed the pizza here, the dough was chewy and soft with just the right amount of crispyness on the outer crust and the toppings were light and fresh. I would love to actually compare it side-by-side one day with the other pizza greats like Prima Strada and Fol Epi to see how it compares. I’ll be back here for sure to try some of their other pizza flavours or to revisit the picante which was delicious!
