With the quality at Pig starting to slip it was great to see there was a new kid on the block, “Hank’s Untraditional BBQ”. I was ecstatic to see they were offering lamb ribs that day. It was a jaw dropping “Whaaaa?” moment, I couldn’t pass this up. The ribs came with potato salad, beans, and corn bread. The meat was flavourful and fall-off-the-bone. The potato salad was just alright (nothing can beat my mom’s potato salad) but I did love the corn bread which tasted like dessert. My friend had the smoked turkey sandwich and he loved it. It was packed with meat, thick cuts of bacon, juicy and flavourful. To prove how excited I was about this place I returned with another friend for early dinner the next day. I ordered the house made gnocchi (hence untraditional BBQ) and my friend ordered the oyster sandwich. The gnocchi was delicious, not the best I’ve ever had but it was good. The oyster sandwich was disappointing though, thought it would have been packed with tender oysters. Too much bread to oyster ratio for my liking.

This casual dining spot is a great addition to the Victoria food scene. There is limited seating, primarily counter seating, so it’s not great for larger groups. I think their oyster sandwich could use some work but their BBQ is pretty stand-up and I think they’ll forever have a golden star in my books for putting lamb ribs on the menu.
