Best Bacon…….in the World??

Alright, I’m inviting my fellow FancyFrites to the ultimate showdown. We already know that it was a close battle in Victoria, with Red Barn bacon coming out as the victor and the Whiskey Smoked bacon a close second. Knowing how much we all love Red Barn bacon, I figured I would start sampling what the local butchers in Seattle have to offer, starting with Rain Shadow Meats in the Melrose Market in Capital Hill.

I’ll start with the cons: Rain Shadow Meats sources their bacon from California, where the pigs are raised and the bacon is cured, so it definitely isn’t local. It’s also on the more expensive end, at around $3.35 for 3 rashers. The Pros: the flavour was pretty good, I described it as very smokey and woodsey, like campfire. It’s pretty fundamentally different from Red Barn bacon and therefore hard to compare, but I think this bacon would have either tied with or fallen just short of the whiskey smoked bacon. This would be a good bacon to cook with, adding to burgers or integrating into other recipes; however Red Barn still reigns with the best breakfast bacon hands down.

I’ll periodically add to this post with other Bacon samplings from Seattle, and Felix, I hereby challenge you to find the best bacon in San Francisco!
